Plying with Carolyn
Part of this week's program will be hands on, part will be demo and Q&A.
Carolyn will cover why we ply, some basic plying tips, formulas for getting the right amount of ply twist, and then of course, the two ways of Navajo plying. After a question and answer session, she is willing to have a look at skeins you have spun and give advice or answer questions you have on them.
You should bring some prepared fiber to spin, preferably something easy to spin. An ounce or two will be plenty. Empty bobbins and a lazy kate will be very helpful.
See you then!

July Events...
In case you can't wait for the fall festivals, we wanted to give you a heads up for The 3rd Annual Artisan's Fair & Fiber Festival hosted by Autumn Mist Alpaca Farm. The event is Saturday, July 23rd. All the information is on the link provided.
Don't forget that the HFHF annual Sheep to Shawl event will be on Sunday, July 24th. Again, all information is available at their link. Those who are attending for demonstration purposes must inform the gate they are there to work. Let's hope your spinning wheel or drop spindle will give it away!

And a last little bit of fun to share...a few of our members wanted to let everyone know that there is an active Spinning & Fiber Arts Group that meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm at the Clarence Library at 3 Town Place. All are welcome to spin, knit, needle-felt, crochet and weave while sharing fiber arts tips. Membership is free.

July Notes
Members should have received an e-mail containing the pattern we will be using for our spin-a-long/knit-a-long. Won't it be great to see all the fine examples of Jen's Esker Scarf at our December meeting. The rules? Your handspun and that pattern!
Our July 10th meeting promises to be really interesting. Mary F. is will be sharing some of her felting secrets with us. I can't wait to hear how she puts together her amazing sculptures and landscape pieces.
The HFHF Sheep to Shawl event is scheduled for Sunday, July 24 from 10-4. We have a small group established for the actual spinning of the shawl yarn, but still need folks to show up with their own wheels, spindles, combs, carders, etc. You know how those muggles love to learn our mysterious ways.
August 6th will be our dye workshop with Jane Bartlett. Please remember to sign up before or at the July meeting.
Michaele and Victoria are looking for your ideas for the upcoming WNY Fiber Festival to be held at Emery Park on Saturday, September 24th. Their e-mails are in your membership booklets and your recent e-mail from the president.

Llamas Gone Wild
Sunday's meeting: Llamas bare it all! Join us for Sue and her shearing demo at the Burchfield.
BTW, feel free to bring your show and tell items. The Critter Ranch thinks that the llamas won't mind.

Sunday will be a "Show & Tell" day for all your lovely hand crafted buttons and closures. Don't forget your wheel or drop spindle while you're at it! P.S. We have about 15 members who have yet to re-new their memberships and pay their 2011 dues. Please take care of this with Doreen so that we may finish the membership booklets and finalize our budget.

Save the Date
Just wanted to let you know that the Hull Family Home & Farmstead has designated Sunday, July 24th for its annual Sheep to Shawl event.
This year will be a bit different: Saturday, July 23rd, ALL local fiber guilds are being invited for an open work day. All members are welcome to hang out on the grounds to spin, quilt, knit...you get the idea. Muggles will then pay to meet and greet with guild members to learn and ask tons of questions.
Sunday, July 24th will be the traditional S2S event. On this day we will be asking members to volunteer for specific shifts to complete the task at hand!
So mark your calendars! Doesn't it feel good to start planning for summer!

BNAC Festival
Have you checked your e-mail lately? Common Threads has sent you some information regarding submissions to the BNAC's March Fiber Exhibition. Don't forget to fill out the attached paper work that goes with it!
And this photo has been hi-jacked from Gene Shepherd's rug hooking blog. I just thought I would give you dyers something to drool over.
Looks like a workshop idea for someone to run, doesn't it?

Happy New Year! Time to get back to work you party animals. Roc Day means the fun is over and the spinners are back at their wheels. To celebrate we have a few things planned to extend the fun.
Bring your wheel or wheels. The guild is going to supply fiber for Musical Wheels. This will give a chance for those interested to spin on someone else's wheel. If you have to choose between your Lendrum and something else, please bring your something else. No disrespect to Gord, but almost too many of us are on that Canadian train:-)
Games, prizes and laughter will abound! Can't wait to see you at the Burchfield Nature and Arts Center. The building opens at noon and the festivities will begin at 1:00; we will be out by 3:00.
